EXAMPLE: L-α-Acetamino-γ-cyanobutyric acid methyl ester.
USE: Intermediate of synthetic amino acid. For example, the catalytic reduction of the compound I using a Raney nickel catalyst poisoned with Pb yields an optically active α-acylamino-γ-formylbutyric acid ester which is an intermediate of optically active tryptophan, etc.
PROCESS: The compound of formula I is prepared by dehydrating an optically active N-acylglutamin ester of formula II which can be easily prepared from a low-cost optically active glutamic acid.
