Abstract

PURPOSE: The title inexpensive composition having mechanical workability, chemical resistance, and curability, prepared by reacting a composition, obtained through addition reaction between polybutadiene and a phenol, with formaldehyde in the presence of a basic catalyst.
CONSTITUTION: 100 parts by wt. of polybutadiene with a 1,4-content of 80% or more and a number-average molecular weight of 150W10,000 is subjected to addition reaction with 10W100 parts by wt. of a phenol in the presence of 0.01W10 parts by wt. of a Lewis acid catalyst in 5W500 parts by wt. of a (halogenated) hydrocarbon as a solvent to give a composition (A). 100 parts by wt. of the composition (A) is reacted with 0.6W3 moles based on the total amount of the phenol used for preparing the composition (A) of formaldehyde in the presence of 1W2,000 parts by wt. of a solvent in the presence of a basic catalyst, e.g. ammonia or dimethylamine, to give the title composition.
