Abstract
PURPOSE: To improve sealing performance of a rotary piston engine, by applying surface treatment to the side housings, side seals, corner seals and other portions of the engine.
CONSTITUTION: Rotor 4 moved like a planet is arranged in freely slidable manner in a space defined by rotor housing 1 and side housings 2. For the purpose of sealing between rotor 4 and housings 1, 2, there are provided side seals 5, corner seals 6 and apex seals 7. By way of soft-nitriding, a layer of Fe-C-N group compound is formed on the inner surfaces 2a of side housings 2. Similarly, by way of soft-nitriding, a layer of Fe-C-N group compound is formed on the surfaces of seals 5W7 which are made of carbon steel. With such an arrangement, wear-resisting performance as well as sealing performance of the seals and housings can be improved.
