Abstract
PURPOSE: To improve directive characteristics of exit light by applying the second hardening material having or not having affinity to the first hardening material to the end face of the core material or outside the core material prior to the first hardening material then forming the lens on the end face of the core part with the first hardening material.
CONSTITUTION: Negative type photosensitive resin 11 having affinity to transparent photosensitive resin 15 for lenses is thinly coated on one end face of a fiber plate 2. The resin 11 is hardened only at the core parts by ultraviolet rays 12. The unhardened portions are removed by a release solvent. Next, the transparent resin (or transparent photosensitive resin) 15 such as epoxy or other is coated and the plate 2 is rotated at a high speed to get rid of the excess resin, thereby forming the lenses of different curvatures according to the surface tension of the resin 15. The lenses 15 are hardened by heating or ultraviolet ray radiation 13 to be bonded to the film 14. In this way, the optical fibers with the lenses of good directive characteristics and improved resolution are readily produced.
