Abstract

PURPOSE: To enhance the productivity of products and continuously produce steel plates of superior quality by letting molten steel stagnate for the specified time between a pair of cooled rolling rolls thereby increasing the arc part where the molten steel contacts the both cooling rolls.
CONSTITUTION: Molten steel 3 poured between both cooled rolling rolls 1, 1' from a tundish 2 by way of a Schnorkel 4 is let to stagnate for the specified time in the molten steel pool part P disposed above the intermediate part of the rolls 1, 1'. As a result of this, the contact arc part (angle) of the outside circumferential surfaces of the molten steel 3 and rolls 1, 1' become considerably larger than that by conventional methods and the stagnation time of the molten steel 3 between the rolls 1, 1' becomes longer. This results in floating of gas and non-metallic inclusion in the molten steel 3, the formation of a slag layer 8 in the upper part of the pool p and yielding of a good quality steel plate 5 having been removed of impurities. Since the molten steel 3 poured in the pool p is heated after it is first contacted to heat-insulating end wall member 7, there is no likelihood of causing local solidification by cooling the molten steel 3 at the end part of the pool p, thus the molten 3 is evenly cooled along the axial direction of the rolls 1, 1'.
