EXAMPLE: N,N-Dimethyl-o-iodophenylacetamide.
USE: Intermediate of diclofenac which is a non-steroidal analgesic antiinflammatory agent.
PROCESS: 1W10moles of thionyl chloride is reacted to 1mol of o-iodophenylacetic acid, to form an acid chloride, and the unreacted thionyl chloride is removed from a reaction product under reduced pressure. Then, said acid chloride is reacted with an amine compound, to obtain a compound of formula I. Diclofenac can be prepared from the compound of formula I, by carrying out the ulmann reaction with 2,6- dichloroaniline and hydrolyzing the resulting N,N-di-lower-alkyl-(2,6-dichloroanilino)-phenylacetamide.
