Abstract
NEW MATERIAL:An 2-aminoindolenine derivative of formula I: (R is H, ω-carboxyalkyl, ω-carboxy-ω-acylamidoalkyl, or ω-alkoxycarbonyl-ω-acylamidoalkyl group).
EXAMPLE: 3-(2-Amino-3-hydroxy-3-indolenyl)propionic acid.
USE: An intermediate for the synthesis of medicines, having analgesic, anti-inflammatory, antihistamine, cardiac vasodilator, diuretic, and hypoglycemic actions.
PROCESS: An N-formylaniline derivative of formula II, e.g. 3-(O-formamidobenzoyl) propionic acid, is reacted with an alkali metal cyanide, e.g. KCN, in a solvent, e.g. water alone or its mixture with a miscible solvent, at an optimum pH to form the objective compound of formula I simply, safely, and efficiently.
