Abstract
NEW MATERIAL:A β-lactam compound and its non-toxic salt, of formula I (R is H or OH; Ar is phenyl or 2-thienyl; X is CH or N; Y is IV or V; n is 1 or 2).
EXAMPLE: D(-)-6-[ α-[p-( 2-thien-2-ylethenyl )benzamido]phenylacetamido ]-penicillanic acid sodium salt.
USE: Antibacterial agent effective to gram-negative bacteria, esp. to Pseudomonas aeruginosa.
PROCESS: The compound I is prepared by reacting a compound II or its salt with a compound III or its reactive derivative, in an organic solvent such as THF, at -50W +50°C, pref. -20°C to room temp. optionally in the presence of a condensing agent or a base.
