Abstract
NEW MATERIAL:A β-lactam compound of formula I (II is III, IV etc.; R1,2 are H or together form a single bond; Y, Z are H, halogen, azido, or together form a substituted aziridine ring) and its non-toxic salt.
EXAMPLE: D(-)-6-[ α-( α'-Iodocinnamoylamino )phenylacetamido ]-penicillanic acid.
USE: High antibacterial activity. Useful as a remedy for bacterially caused diseases.
PROCESS: The compound I is prepared by reacting a compound V or its salt with a compound VI or its reactive derivative in an organic solvent such as tetrahydrofuran or a mixed solvent comprising an organic solvent and water, at -20CW 50°C.
