Abstract

PURPOSE: To make it possible to recognize characters on a skewed form by detecting the skew degree and segmenting characters according to this degree.
CONSTITUTION: A form is scanned by scanner 1 and is photoelectrically converted to generate a binary quantized output. This binary pattern output is stored in memory circuit 2. For the purpose of detecting the skew degree of one-page components of contents of circuit 2, contents are read out successively by mark detection circuit 3. If the skew mark and the line mark have the same form, these marks can be detected. Circuit 3 detects skew mark 71 first and skew mark 70 next and inputs detection signals to coordinate detection circuit 4. Circuit 4 inputs difference between the X address and Y address of both marks 70 and 71 to address control circuit 5. When detecting line mark 72, circuit 5 uses its X and Y addresses as initial values to generate skew addresses for segmenting of the character read line of the form. Character data for one line of circuit 2 is read out on a basis of generated addresses and is inputted to recognition circuit 6 to recognized characters.
