Abstract
PURPOSE: To recover methane gas in high yield by subjecting substances composed mainly of natural organics to an anaerobic methane fermentation.
CONSTITUTION: Substances composed mainly of organics, e.g., the excess sludge, etc., of night soil activated sludge treatment are treated by an anaerobic methane fermentation to convert biodegradable organics into methane for the first time, and then biologically hard-to-decomposable or non-decomposable organics are brought into contact with air containing oxygen at 150W300°C and 20W200kg/cm2 to convert most of them into carboxylic acids chamically and the theu are subjected to the usual type anaerobic methane fermentation treatment. Thus, total treatment time can be shortened and methane conversion rate can also be raised.
