Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain the title compound, a musky perfume, in high yield, by copolymerizing a dibasic fatty acid with a glycol in the presence of a specific co-catalyst, and by depolymerizing the reaction product thus obtained, without isolation, in the presence of a specific catalyst free from lowering of the thermal conductivity.
CONSTITUTION: A dibasic fatty acid of formula I (n is an integer 10W14) is reacted with a glycol of the formula HO-(CH2)n-OH (n is 2W4) in the presence of a triphenylphosphine of the formula (R')3-p (R' is phenyl group) as a co-catalyst. The resulting copolymer straight chain polyester is depolymerized and subjected to ring closure in presence of an alkyltin oxide of formula II (R2 and R3 are 2W4C alkyl groups) in a suitable heating medium, e.g. liquid paraffin, under vacuum, to give a large-ring compound of formula III (m is an integer 10W16; n is an integer 0W 4, 13≤(m+n)≤16; X is formula IV]. Diethyltin oxide, etc. may be cited as the catalyst.
