Abstract
NEW MATERIAL:A compound of formula I [the ring A may be substituted by lower alkyl, lower alkoxy or halogen; the condensed ring of B and C is trans; R1 is H or lower alkyl group; R2 is lower alkyl, substituted phenyl] and/or its acid addition salt.
EXAMPLE: trans-5, 6, 6a, 11a-Tetrahydro-q-methyl-8-phenylnaphtho[1', 2':4, 5] imidazo[2, 1-b]thiazole.
USE: Anti-inflammatory agents.
PROCESS: One mole of a compound of formula II is heated in a solvent, e.g. acetic acid, in the presence of 0.01mol or more of an aromatic sulfonic acid to give the compound of formula I in high yield. The starting compound of formula X is novel, and obtained by reacting a compound of formula III with a compound of formula IV (X is halogen).
