Abstract
PURPOSE: To prepare an almost spherical granular bituminous substance having a uniform grain size, by cutting molten columns of a bituminous substance flowing from smole holes in a specific state with a water current.
CONSTITUTION: A bituminous substance, e.g. coal tar or petroleum pitch, molten in the vessel 1 is fed from the supply pipe 6 through the dispersion vessel 7 with the perforated bottom plate 12 and dropped in the form of continuous columns to the water current continuously fed from the inlet 9 into the cooling tank 8. The water is then discharged from the outlet continuously to keep the surface in a given direction. The columns are cut by the water current on entry to the water into granules, and sedimented in the tank 8, then taken out by the screw conveyor 11.
