Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain the title compound useful as antiphlogistics and analgesics and their intermediates in high purity and yield, industrially advantageously, by reacting a benzene derivative with 3-methylthiophene derivative in the presence of a catalyst. CONSTITUTION:A compound (C) of formula I: (X<1> is halogen or Mg-halogen) is reacted with a compound of formula II: (R<1> is a group which will not take part in the reaction, preferably halogen or alkyl group; X<2> is halogen or Mg-halogen; however, a group different from X<1>), in the presence of 1/10-1/10000mol equivalent per mole of C of a catalyst, e.g. Pd, Ni or Pt, in a solvent e.g. THF, under anhydrous conditions in the atmosphere of nitrogen without forming isomers.
