Abstract

PURPOSE: To produce artificial patina of good adhesiveness which does not become yellowish on copper surfaces by coating an aqueous copper nitrate solution on the copper surface to let Cu2O be produced then coating an artificial patina producing solution.
CONSTITUTION: When the surfaces of the blank made of copper or having undergone copper plating are roughened mechanically with standpaper or the like or chemically with dilute hydrochloric acid or the like and an aqueous copper nitrate solution is coated thereon, then Cu2O produces on the blank surfaces. When an artificial patina producing solution is coated on the surfaces of the blank which have become active through production of Cu2O, patina is produced in a few minutes. Since Cu2O forms evenly, the patina produces evenly and the patina surfaces will not become yellowish. In addition, the adhesiveness of the patina layer and blank material becomes good. Copper nitrate 300 g/l or under is desirable as the aqueous copper nitrate solution and if the aqueous copper nitrate solution is used after added with edible salt, the rate of production of patina and adhesiveness may be further improved.
