Abstract
PURPOSE: To allow plate glass to hold sufficient strength by restricting the curvature radius of the inside of a bending portion and specifying the relation between the min. thickness of the portion and the thickness of flat portions to make the curvature of the bending portion small.
CONSTITUTION: The whole of plate glass is uniformly heated, and a bening portion is locally heated to the softening temp. with a heating element such as a silicon arbide rod and bent to an angle of 90W105°. The whole of this glass is then allowed to reach a strengthening temp. zone and strengthened by quenching. At this time, the curvature radius of the inside of the bending portion is adjusted to 4W10mm, and considering the min. thickness of the portion to be t and the thickness of flat portions to be T, equation 0.78≤t/T≤0.88 is satisfied. By this method strengthened and bent plate glass whose bent portion has been uniformly strengthened is obtd.
