Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve the initial and the final strengths of soil, to prevent the collapse of excavated earth and the loss of soil with water stream, and to stabilize ground in a short time, by using an aqueous solution of sodium silicate together with a curing agent comprising lime and gypsum.
CONSTITUTION: Grouting agent consisting of (A) an aqueous solution of sodium silicate and (B) a mixture of (a) 1 part by weight of lime and (b) 1:3W3:1 parts of gypsum selected from dihydrate, α-semihydrate, β-semihydrate, and II-type anhydride, is impregnated into the earth to be stabilized. The agent cures in several to ten odds seconds in the ground. Since the strength of soil treated by this process is sufficiently high, the earth can be excavated without collapse; and since the cured grout has high initial strength, the loss of the soil from the stabilized ground can be minimized even in a swift water stream.
