Abstract

PURPOSE: To form a photoreceptor superior in sensitivity and durability, by forming 2 photoconductive layers consisting of an amorphous silicon (a-Si) layer and a layer of an inorganic photoconductive material except a-Si, this layer being laid on the side of a substrate.
CONSTITUTION: Layer 2 of an inorganic photoconductive material, such as CdS, having a dark resistivity of 1013W1016ohm.cm is formed on conductive substrate 1 by coating substrate 1 with a coating solution containing CdS or the like and a binder, and by heat treating this. Substrate 1, such as Al drum 5 is fixed to fixing member 7 of glow discharge deposition chamber 6, evacuated by opening valve 9, drum 5 is heated with heater 8, Ar gas and SiH4 gas are introduced into chamber 6 through flow control valves 15, 16 and valves 12, 14, from cylinders 11, 13, respectively, by opneing valve 10, glow discharge is caused between electrodes 18 and 18' by high frequency electric source 17, and thus, α-Si layer 3 is formed. Layer 3 is preferably 0.1W5μ thick, layer 2 preferably 5W70μ thick. This receptor is superior to a single layer, such as CdS, in sensitivity, humidity resistance, etc.
