Abstract

PURPOSE: To separate emulsion into oil layer and water layer by utilizing the difference in specific gravity between oil and water by the procedure in which air ion is blown into emulsion in separation layer to cause bubbling for agitation in order to neutralize the heteropolar molecules in emulsion with ionized air.
CONSTITUTION: The separation tank 1 into which emulsion is housed is provided with the cocks 2 and 3 for discharging water conternt and oil content separated, for example, and also its inside bottom is provided with the pipe 5 with a large number of small holes 4 which is connected to the ion generator 7 on the outside through the piping 6. Then, coronal discharge is made between the needle electrode 8 on the high voltage side and the circularly holed metal flat plate 9 as the electrode on the low voltage side in the ion generator 7, and ionized air generated by alternately switching its polarity from negative charge to positive is blown into the separation tank 1 to cause bubbling for agitation in order to neutralize heteropolar molecules present in emulsion with ionized air. Thus, water present in the emulsion can be precipitated by specific gravity difference, permitting the effective separation of water layer and oil layer.
