Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent spring-up by holding the magnetic field current of a motor for driving mandrel at the specific value after the point when the strip has passed through the finishing mill thereby decreasing the armature current in correspondence to the decrease in back tension.
CONSTITUTION: At the point when the tail of a strip 7 has passed through the final stand 6 of the finishing mill, the detection signal from a detector 12 causes the output of a tension reference control circuit 16 to decrease by the value corresponding to the amount of decrease having been in a tension decrease amount setting circuit 14. Based on this decreased output value, the armature current of a motor 11 decreases by the specified value corresponding to the decrease amount having been set in the decrease amount setting circuit 14. The magnetic field current of the motor 11 is held at the value of that point and further the output of the tension reference control circuit 16 decreases linearly according to the rate of decrease having been set in the tension decrease rate setting circuit 15 until the coiling ends after the point with the tail of the strip 7 has passed through the final stand 6. Upon ending of the coiling, the power supply to the motor circuit 11 is stopped by a mandrel stop circuit, whereby the coiling is ended.
