Abstract
PURPOSE: To provide a decorative, castable Pt alloy with a good mechanical strength and castability by alloying Pt with a specific amount of Co, or Co and Y.
CONSTITUTION: To Pt, 5W15wt% of Co or further 0.01W3wt% of Y is added and melted to form Pt-Co alloy or Pt-Co-Y alloy. The alloy of these compositions has an enhanced mechanical strength provided by added Co, causes no reaction with a mold in casting operation, controls oxygen concentration, and thus enhances castability. The addition of Y further increases castability as well as mechanical strength by forming fine crystal grain. As such, the alloy is suited for material to make ring, brooch, cuffs button, watch frame, etc.
