Abstract

PURPOSE: To remove oxidative halogen compounds without controlling pH by filtering the primarily treated matter after the precipitation process by active carbon then letting the same make contact with chelate resins in refining the circulating salt water of an ion exchange membrane type electrolytic cell.
CONSTITUTION: Sodium halide is replenished to the dilute salt water being discharged from the electrolytic cell to saturate the same, after which Na2CO3 or NaOH is added to let polyvalent metal compounds sediment and separate. Thence, if active carbon is passed through the precoated filter to remove flock-form precipitate, then there is no elution of Ca, etc. even if it is an aqueous alkaline solution and even the oxidative halogen compunds may be removed. Hence, the refining process by chelate resins is progressed smoothly and the durability of the chelate resins improved.
