Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide an insulating polypropylene having excellent oil resistance and low swellability and giving insulating oil having a steady viscosity, wherein the isotactic pentad fraction of the boiling heptane-isoluble part, the content of boiling heptane-soluble part, and the intrinsic viscosity of the polypropylene fall in specific ranges.
CONSTITUTION: A polypropylene useful as an electrical insulating material and having the following characteristics: an isotactic pentad fraction of the boiling heptane- insoluble part, ≥0.955; a boiling heptane-soluble part content, 2.0W9.0wt%; and an intrinsic viscosity of the polymer soluble in xylene at 20°C, ≤1.0dl/g. The The isotactic pentad fraction is the fraction of the middle monomer unit in the isotactic chain composed of the pentad units, i.e. in the chain provided by meso- bonding of five successive propylene monomer units.
