Abstract

PURPOSE: Title resin composition that is composed of a novolak-type condensate, an epoxy resin containing imide ring and a curing catalyst, thus having high heat resistance, mechanical properties, good curing properties, being readily compression molded and suitably used to produce laminates and molded products.
CONSTITUTION: (A) 30W55wt% of a novolak-type condensate of formula I (Y is alkyl, aralkyl, aryl; n is 0, positive integral number) is mixed with (B) 70W45wt% of an imide group-containing epoxy resin resulting from reaction between (a) a dicarboxylic acid containing imide groups of formula II (R1 is a divalent organic group) and (b) an epoxy compound bearing 2 or more epoxy groups and further (C) a curing agent as benzyldimethylamine is added to the mixture. The amount of component b is preferably at such a level that the epoxy groups becomes 2W20 equivalents per equivalent of carboxylic acid of component a.
