Abstract

PURPOSE: To make airtight sealing in glass sealing easy by coating the surface of an Fe-Ni oxide layer with a borax layer.
CONSTITUTION: A 6.6mm diameter oxygenless copper bar is inserted into a 50%Ni- Fe alloy tube of 20mm outside diameter and 6mm wall thickness, cold press welding and hot drawing are applied, cold drawing and intermediate annealing are repeated and they are formed into a composite wire of 1mm diameter. The composite wire is heated on a gas burner in the air and an Fe-Ni oxide layer of about 2μ is formed on the surface, then the wire is passed in borax solution and is heated again on a gas burner to enamel borax on the oxide layer on the surface of the composite wire. By so constructing, the outer surface is covered with the glassy borax layer, so the surface can be wetted with sealing glass very easily and under the borax layer, the Fe-Ni layer easily adaptable with glass is prepared previously, therefore, the airtightness between the composite wire and the sealing glass is improved. Further, sealing time is shortened and the over oxidation on the grain boundaries of the composite wire material can be avoided.
