Abstract

PURPOSE: To regenerate red-luminescent Eu-acitvated yttrium oxysulfide by a method wherein recovered inorganic pigment-coated phosphor undergoes surface treatment by using oxidizing agent and then is deposited with inorganic pigment.
CONSTITUTION: Colored Y2O2S: Eu phosphor recovered from waste development solution as solid component is washed with aq. alkali solution at room temperature to 100°C to dissolve slurry components such as polyvinyl alcohol and ammonium dichromate and pigment binders such as gelatin and polyvinylpyrrolidone. The phospbor is then thoroughly washed by combination of water-wash and decantation or water-wash and centrifugal dehydration. Next, the surface treatment using oxidizing agent such as a 0.002W0.035vol% hydrogen peroxide solution is applied. Then, centrifugation, etc. is carried out for dehydration and drying of phosphor, and supplementary inorganic pigment is deposited by means of gelatin-gum arabic process. This provides reusable colored Y2O2S: Eu phosphor.
