Abstract

PURPOSE: To shorten the data decoding time of a system which decodes input data of variable-length codes into fixed-length codes, by providing a selector circuit independent of an extension code conversion table and its contents.
CONSTITUTION: This system is provided with extension conversion table 3a in which entry addresses with variable-length codes extended to a fixed length are made to correspond to fixed-length codes. Among input data group 1 of variable- length codes, fixed-length data are extracted from points indicated by 11 and then stored in input data register 12. Selector circuit 30 finds the entry of coincident table 3a from input data from register 12 and turns ON one of selective signal lines 31 to store it in comparated register 15a. in register 15a, the contents of table 3a of the variable-length code and of register 12 are stored and fixed/length code 18 is stored in output data group 2; the storing indication for output data is updated to 23 and leading-out indication for input data to 24. Consequently, variable-length codes can be decoded into fixed-length codes at a high speed.
