Abstract

PURPOSE: To recover S from an SO2-contg. gas in a high yield by reducing the gas in a coal-packed bed of a moving bed reactor provided with a plurality of coal- packed beds arranged vertically in a series while communicating with each other; separating the resulting S; oxidizing by-product S cpds. to SO2; and reducing the SO2 in other packed bed.
CONSTITUTION: SO2-contg. gas 1 is fed into upper coal-packed bed 12 of reactor 2 provided with bed 12 and lower coal-packed bed 13 which are communicating with each other through throttle portion 14. In bed 12 gas 1 is reacted with coal such as bituminous coal, anthracite or coke preheated to 700W900°C, and the reaction products are separated into solid and gas in dust collector 3 through pipe 15. The gas is fed to S condenser 4 to recover S and burned with line burner 6. S cpds. such as H2S by-produced in bed 12 are converted into SO2, which is then fed to bed 13, reduced at 700W900°C, and separated into solid and gas in dust collector 7 through pipe 16 to recover S in condenser 8.
