Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain a brake lining material having excellent frictional characteristics, by binding acrylic flameproofing fiber and carbon fiber with a binder. CONSTITUTION:Fiber blend composed of 50-98wt% of acrylic flameproofing fiber and 2-50% of carbon fiber, is bound with a binder selected from a phenolic resins, epoxy resins, polyimide resins, rubbers, etc. The composition may contain an agent for improving brake characteristics, e.g. metal powders, inorganic powders, etc. The acrylic flameproofing fiber can be manufactured by heating acrylic fiber containing >=85% of acrylonitirle in an oxidative atmosphere, e.g. in air, at 200- 400 deg.C, and the carbon fiber can be prepared by carbonizing or graphitizing the flameproofing fiber in a non-oxidative atmosphere at >=600 deg.C.
