Abstract
PURPOSE: To prevent overcooling of heat accumulating material positively and to improve reliability, by placing a porous heat-insulating element in a heat accumulating tank in which heat accumulating material is filled.
CONSTITUTION: In the state that temperature T of heat accumulating material 3 is higher than its melting point TM under heat accumulating condition, temperature TS on the upper surface of heat-insulating element 5 is lower than the melting point and breed crystals are kept alive. Subsequently, when temperature T of material 3 becomes lower than TM through radiation of heat, crystals are grown large from the breed crystals and solidification proceeds downward in element 5 as viewed in the drawing. The heat-insulating element 5 has complicated continuous hollow spaces having various sizes of about 1 to several hundred μm and heat accumulating material 3 such as ammonium alum is impregnated in the element 5. Therefore, along with proceeding of solidification, a number of secondary seed crystals are developed from the original seed crystals and these secondary seed crystals in the form of extremely fine particles are supplied to portions of heat exchanger 2. Thus, crystals are developed smoothly and with a small extent of overcooling throughout the entire space in heat accumulating tank 1.
