Abstract
PURPOSE:To form a firmly bonded melt projection layer, in metal or ceramic plasma melt projection, on metal substrate surface by preliminarily cleaning the surface with plasma flame in inert gas atmosphere. CONSTITUTION:Substrate metal 11 to be projected and the plasma gun unit 1 are set in the inert gas chamber 12, and are connected to negative electrodes of D.C. power supply 22. The positive electrode of the power 22 is connected to the positive of D.C. power for producing plasma arc through switch 23. Plasma gas such as Ar or He from bomb 7 is injected from the outlet 6, weak plasma arc is generated between W-made negative electrode 2 and water-cooled cupper positive electrode 3, and plasma jet is injected from the gun 1. The switch is closed to generate arc between the copper electrode 3 and the substrate metal 11 to remove oxide layer from the metal surface. Then, the switch 23 is opened, and projecting powder such as metal or ceramic from the hopper 8 is carried by inert gas from the bomb 9 to the outlet 10. The projecting powder is thus deposited on the substrate metal surface 11.
