Abstract

PURPOSE: To form excellent paint film free of gas pin holes by the procedure in which the heating temperature for paint film formed by a powder electrodeposition coating (EPC) method on the surface of an object to be coated in a drying furnace is raised stepwise according to the characteristic of the paint film until sufficient dehydrated drying state is reached and then softening and baking are followed.
CONSTITUTION: An object coated with a paint by a EPC method is delivered in the direction of arrow mark on conveyer, etc., in the drying furnace 1. In the first dehydrating drying zone A, the paint is film is heated by a low-temperature air hot enough not to soften the paint film to sufficiently dehydrate and dry the paint film, and then in the softening zone B, the paint film is heated by a medium-temperature hot air to soften it. Then, in the subsequent hardening zone C, the softened paint film on the object is baked and hardened by a high-temperature hot air. The partition walls 2 and 3 are provided between the zones A, B, and C so as to lessen the mutual ventilation of air through them except space large enough to feed the coated object to be treated.
