Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a picture clock signal which does not affect to rotation variance of a rotary polygonal mirror, by irradiating a light beam to a grid plate where grid-form meshes of which period is larger than a picture element pitch and by detecting its permeation or reflection light. CONSTITUTION:One light beam from laser light source 1 passes through slit H of mirror 5 and is focused onto photosensitive drum 8. Another has the light path changed by mirror 5 and is focused onto grid plate 6. Grid plate 6 is provided with one stripe for N picture elements. The light beam which passe through the grid plate is incident to photodetector 7. If the speed of the light beam is not uniform even if the stripe intervals of grid plate are uniform, intervals of the output of detector 7 become irregular in respect to time. When the signal obtained by dividing intervals of the pulse train of irregular intervals by 1/10 are given as the clock signal for forming the picture, a normal picture is formed which is independent of speed irregularity of optical beam scanning and the distortion characteristic of the optical system.
