Abstract
PURPOSE: To prepare a novel composite pigment having excellent color shade, clarity, heat resistance, etc., by integrating an inorganic pigment particle with an insoluble organic pigment using a particular inorganic binder, thereby precipitating an insoluble metal phosphate, etc. on the inorganic pigment particle.
CONSTITUTION: A solution of a soluble metal salt is brought into contact with a solution of phosphoric acid or of a soluble phosphate (and/or solution of boric acid or of a soluble borate) in an aqueous suspension containing inorganic pigment particles (pref. extender pigment or white pigment) such as barium sulfate and an insoluble organic pigment (e.g. azo pigment, thioindigo pigment, etc.), and an inorganic binder composed of an insoluble phosphate and/or insoluble borate of said metal is precipitated on the inorganic pigment particles. By this process, a colored outer layer containing the organic pigment is formed on the pigment particle, to obtain the novel organic and inorganic composite pigment.
EFFECT: Excellent opacifying power, weatherresistance, solvent resistance, etc.
