Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain the titled compound useful as a vasodilator in high purity in high yield, by reacting an (ω-1)-oxoalkyl halide with a metal salt of 3,7-dimethylxanthine in a solvent of hexamethylphosphoric triamide.
CONSTITUTION: A compound shwon by the formula I (X is halogen; n is integer of 3, 4, or 5) is reacted with a metal salt of 3,7-dimethylxanthine in a solvent of hexamethyl-phosphoric triamide, to give a xanthine derivative shown by the formula II. The use of hexamethylphosphoric triamide as the solvent gives the compound shown by the formula II in high yield in high purity readily by a simple operation. The reaction conditions are selected readily, and the isolation and purification of the compound shwon by the formula II is easy.
