Abstract

PURPOSE:To make it possible to measure accurately the three-dimensional shape of a steel plate in running, by arranging optical fiber haing an optical system which photodetects only parallel luminous fluxes among luminous fluxes incident to the tip part. CONSTITUTION:The tip part of each optical fiber 4 is positioned at the focus position of each lens 5, and only luminous fluxes parallel to the optical axes of lenses 5 are led to photodetectors 6 via optical fibers 4 and then scanned by driving and signal detecting circuit 8 to detect the light intensity distribution of the incident luminous fluxes. Such photosensors 7a and 7b detect the positions of both ends of steel plate 1 in running. Since only parallel luminous fluxes 8 are detected, the width can accurately be measured even if steel plate 1 shifts in position to 1'. The thickness of steel plate 1 can accurately be measured by using sensors 11a and 11b. Thus, the three-dimensional shape of steel plate 1 in running can accurately be measured.
