Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain a primer composition having excellent adhesiveness to the surface of an iron-based metal, from a specified composition of polyvinyl butyral and a urethane prepolymer having terminal isocyanate groups.
CONSTITUTION: A polyvinyl butyral (A) of an average polymerization degree of 200W2,000 and a butyral content of 55mol% or more is mixed with a urethane prepolymer (B) having 3W15wt% terminal isocyanate groups, obtained by the reaction of a polyol component having 2 or more hydroxyl groups in its molecule and an isocyanate component in a proportion of NCO/OH ratio of 1.1W3.0 at 60W100°C for 1W10hr, in such a way that the ratio of the solid content of (A) to that of (B) is 100/10W200 by weight and also the total amount (wt%) of (A) and (B) is 70wt% or more (solid content). Then, the primer composition thus obtained is coated on the surface of an iron-based material in an amount of 10W300g/m2 (in terms of solid content), and allowed to stand at ordinary temperature to 120°C for 0.5W 24hr for hardening. Then, the hardened primer coat is further coated with a thermosetting polyurethane prepolymer and then allowed to stand at ordinary temperature to 120°C for 1W168hr for hardening.
