Abstract
PURPOSE:To prevent the spread of a fire due to a cable in case of a fire, by using flame-resisting vinyl, having a specific oxygen index corresponding to an inclusion material, for the sheath of the cable. CONSTITUTION:Of the optical fiber cable consisting of optical fiber core 1, tension member 2, spacer 3, inclusion 4, upper layer 5, and sheath 6, inclusion 4 uses a thermoplastic material. In this case, sheath 6 is coated with vinyl of >=33 in oxidation index. If paper, jute or a material of >=25 in oxygen index is used as inclusion 4, sheath 6 is coated with vinyl of >=30 in oxygen index. Thus, using vinyl of high flame resistance for the sheath minimizes the spread of a fire due to the cable.
