Abstract

PURPOSE: To manufacture structural castings having high corrosion resistance and toughness without carrying out heat treatment by restricting the contents of Mg, Si, Fe, Ti, B, Cu, Na and Be in an Al alloy and the value of Ti/B.
CONSTITUTION: This Al alloy contains 2.5W3.5% Mg, ≤0.1% Si, ≤0.2% Fe, ≤0.05W0.2% Ti, 0.0007W0.01% B, ≤0.1% Cu, ≤0.001% Na, 0.001W0.005% Be and ≤0.1% total impurities and satisfies Ti/B≤30. This alloy has medium tensile strength, high toughness withstanding an impact and corrosion resistance without being subjected to heat treatment. Accordingly, castings made of the Al alloy are used as parts for various kinds of industrial machines and vehicles, civil engineering and construction members, etc.
