Abstract

PURPOSE: To detect failure while making it unnecessary for those engaging in maintenance to vist a far side by a method wherein a voltage applying means and a means for interrupting the connection between cables are provided at a near side and a far side respectively, and furthermore a pulse signal detecting means at the near side and a DC current interrupting means at the far side are provided.
CONSTITUTION: In connection with the pair cables of the communication system through which communication is possible without the supply of DC current, if an exciting winding 6 is excited by applying a DC power source 3 at a near side, a contact point 6a repeats on and off, generating a DC pulse signal in a cable 1. A condenser 8 interrupts the circuit in form of DC in such a way that DC current does not flow to equipment illustrated in a rough sketch on the far side beyond the far side, so that the damage of the equipment is prevented when the DC current is being sent. Although the pulse signal is detected by a detector 7 via a resistor R, it can be judged that there is no failure in the pair cables. Otherwise, if there exists short- circuiting 5, the occurrence of a failure can be informed because the detector 7 is not capable of detecting the pulse signal.
