Abstract
PURPOSE:To carry out the thermal denitration of a large amount of a metal nitrate, in high efficiency, by using an apparatus furnished with a transfer screw for transferrring the metal nitrate solution, and a heating means in the thermal denitration cylinder of the apparatus. CONSTITUTION:In an apparatus for the thermal denitration of metal nitrates such as uranyl nitrate, plutonium nitrate, etc., the apparatus is furnished in its thermal denitration cylinder 1 with a transfer screw 6 for transferring the metal nitrate solution and a heating means 11 consisting of a microwave generator 14. The metal nitrate solution is supplied from the solution supplying means 3, and transferred in the thermal denitration cylinder 1 toward the outlet 4 by the rotation of the transfer screw 6. During the transfer, the nitrate solution is subjected to the thermal denitration by the action of microwave radiated from the microwave generator 14, and the produced powdery or granular oxide is taken out from the outlet hole 4. The gas generated in the thermal denitration is treated with a discharge gas treating means 18 to prevent the pollution of the ambient environment.
