  • Separation Of Suspended Particles By Flocculating Agents (AREA)

Abstract

PURPOSE: To separate sewage such as rice-washing water to supernatant liquid and gelationid within a short period by adjusting the pH value of the sewage at a proper level, adding basic aluminum polychloride, and then adding a flocculant to the sewage.
CONSTITUTION: Starch-containing sewage such as rice-washing water is adjusted to pH8W8.5 by the addition of sulfuric acid, caustic soda or lime. An aqueous basic aluminum polychloride solution is then charged into the sewage. Thereafter, the sewage is agitated, to suspend innumerable crystals in the sewage. To the agitated mixture is added an appropriate coagulating solution. The sewage is agitated again, and left standing so that the sewage will be separated to supernatant liquid and gelatinoid, which are then discharged separately. According to this process, the starch-containing sewage can be disposed at a low cost within a short period.
