Abstract
PURPOSE: To simplify the construction, improve the durability and lower the production cost by a method wherein a configuration memory metal is used as a temperature sensitive element to utilize the deformation stress due to the reversible transformation.
CONSTITUTION: Taking the case of the valve actuating in response to the temperature of a liquid to be controlled, the coiled spring shape temperature sensitive response element 14 is provided between the main body of valve 1 and a valve head 12 and opens or closes the valve in conjuction with a coiled spring 16 equipped at the free end of a valve rod 13. When the liquid temperature is low, the response element 14 has the martensite phase and shrinks itself to operate to close the valve. While, when the liquid temperature is high, the element 14 transforms into matrix phase and stretches itself to operate to open the valve. In contrast with the case described above, the element, which shrinks itself at high temperature and stretches itself at low temperature, can be employed. By applying the configuration memory metal as described above, the construction can be simplified, the durability improved and the production cost lowered.
