Abstract

PURPOSE:To shorten access time by a method wherein, as a commodity control device for controlling videotapes in a video library, a carrier is equipped with a memory function and a power source to allow the carrier to travel along the optimum channel between a shelf specified by the central processing unit and a VTR. CONSTITUTION:A user inputs cassette and VTR numbers to a station 8 at a booth 14. According to the program of the central processing unit 3, the address of a shelf 1 storing a cassette 2 with that number is located at the station 8 to determine the optimum channel 5 for the cassette. Thus the travelling program of a carrier 6 is determined and given to the memory of the carrier 6 from the station 8. Next the carrier 6 starts travelling based on the travelling command from the station 8 and stops at the specified position of the shelf 1 for storage to obtain the cassette 2 with the use of the extracting device of the carrier 6 before travelling for mounting the cassette 2 on a VTR4. As a result, an image is produced on the VTR4. When the cassette 2 is used outside otherwise, the device is so instructed as to place the cassette 2 at a cassette extracting place 9.
