Abstract
PURPOSE:To eliminate stains on an image background and the edges of the backside, low clearcutness of the circumferential parts of the image, poor reproducibility of its solid blacks and the low density area, etc., by using a one-component type toner having a powder compressibility not less than a specified value. CONSTITUTION:The toner to be used for visualizing an electrostatic latent image has a powder compressibility >=27%, i.e. the value C (%) represented by the formula, where rhoa(g/cc) is an apparent density when a cell having a given volume is gently and slowly filled with the toner by a specified method, and rhop is an apparent density when the same cell is filled with the toner nearly to the maximum filling density by tapping the cell sufficiently. For example, a developing roller 2 has magnets 21 rotating clockwise inside the roller 2, and an outer developing sleeve 22 rotating anticlockwise, the magnetic toner 4 is fed on the sleeve 22, the space between a regulating member 5 and the sleeve 22 is made narrow, and the toner 4 is sufficiently compressed in the toner compressing part 7 between the sleeve 22 and a photoreceptor 1, thus permitting the toner 4 to be approached to the maximum filling density in this part 7, and therefore, developing efficiency and image density to be enhanced.
