Abstract

NEW MATERIAL:An α,β-dihydropolyprenyl-carboxylic acid expressed by formula I (n is an integer 1W4; R1 is H or lower alkyl) and its derivative.
EXAMPLE: (E,E)-3,7,11,15-Tetramethyl-6,10,14-hexadecatetraenoic acid.
USE: A treating agent for hepatic disorders, preferably per os usually in an amount of 50W2,000mg, preferably 200W600mg, per adult a day.
PROCESS: A compound expressed by formula II is hydrolyzed in the presence of a base, to form a compound expressed by formula III. The resultant compound or a reactive derivative, if necessary, is reacted with a compound expressed by the formula R3-OH (R3 is lower alkyl) to give a compound expressed by formula I. The compound expressed by formula III, if used, is reacted in the presence of a condensing agent, e.g. p-toluenesulfonyl chloride, or in the case of a reactive derivative, an acid chloride or an acid anhydride may be cited as a preferable derivative.
