Abstract
PURPOSE:A mixture of alkylcellosolve and a halogenated ethylene is irrdiated with ionizing radiation or subjected to the reaction in the presence of an organic peroxide to produce readily and directly title compound used as flame retardant solvent without the step of acetyl derivative formation. CONSTITUTION:A mixture of an alkylcellosolve of formula R1R2CH-O-CH2CH2OH (R1 and R2 are 1-6C alkyl, H) and a halogenated ethylene of formula I (X1-X4 are halogen) is irradiated with ionizing radiation such as cobalt-60 or cesium-137 or is subjected to the reaction in the presence of an organic peroxide such as di-t- butyl peroxide, methyl ethyl ketone peroxide to produce said alkylcellosolve bearing a halogenated vinyl group of formula III where the hydrogen atom in the 1 position of the alkyl group in the alkylcellosolve (R1R2CH-) are substituted with the groups of formula II. USE:Synthetic resin, plasticizer, antimicrobial and organic synthetic intermediate.
