Abstract

PURPOSE: To copy information in an original without omitting any piece of it, by detecting an original paper size before start of scanning with an exposing light source, selecting a necessary paper feeding cassette, and copying an optional original of size smaller than the maximal possible copy size.
CONSTITUTION: Operating copy start switch 23 applies a signal to sequential copy controller 22, and allows a lighting command to be delivered to lighting unit 17 to light projectors 9a, 10a in original paper size sensors 9, 10. Original platen 5 is illuminated by these illumination lights, and when original paper 6 is present in the positions corresponding to sensors 9, 10, a photoconductive output due to diffusion and reflection is low, while when absent, the output is high. These lights are quantized to level 0 or 1 by presence or absence of paper 6 with binary circuits 18a, 18b to discriminate the presence of paper 6 and in addition, the outputs of circuits 18a, 18b discriminate size of paper 6, too.
