Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve the operability of a copier by allowing another standard paper to be copied even if any paper is absent in a selected paper supply port, selecting the paper supply port for optimum paper and prohibiting the copy if the standard paper is absent. CONSTITUTION:When an automatic paper selecting mode is set, a control unit of a copier body 1 allows a copy operation to be started even if the absence of paper in a selected paper supply cassette 20 or 21 is detected by paper-empty sensors 420, 421, as long as the presence of standard paper in another cassette 21 or 22 is detected by paper type and size detectors 401-404, 410-417. Then, the paper supply cassette 21 or 20 to which optimum paper is set is selected. On the other hand, when the standard paper is absent in any paper supply cassette, the copy operation is not started. Thus, the operability of the copier can be improved.
